Supporting regulation first so communication can grow
Regulation comes first
Every child has unique sensory preferences. Some children seek movement, pressure, or crashing. Others need gentle input, quiet play, or time to feel safe and settled.
In my therapy space, I use movement, sensory input, and play to help children feel regulated and connected—because communication develops best when a child feels comfortable, engaged, and understood.
How the Sensory Gym Supports Your Child
Regulation ➜ Connection ➜ Communication
Sensory needs and communication are deeply connected.
When a child feels regulated, they are more available for connection, play, and learning.
In sessions, we use movement, sensory input, and play to create natural opportunities for communication—based on each child’s interests, strengths, and needs.
What Sessions Look Like
Every session is individualized based on your child’s interests, sensory preferences, regulation needs, and communication goals. Sessions are playful, flexible, and designed to support connection and engagement.
Depending on the child, sessions may include:
Swinging, climbing, jumping, or movement activities to support regulation and engagement
Pretend play with toys, dolls, vehicles, kitchens, or sensory bins
Language modeling during motivating, child-led activities
AAC modeling and support for children using communication devices
Turn-taking, social interaction, and shared attention through play
Books, games, crafts, or structured activities when appropriate
Parent coaching and collaboration throughout the session
Some children are highly active and move throughout the session, while others prefer quieter play or calming sensory supports. Therapy is adapted to meet each child where they are.
The goal is not to have children sit at a table and “perform,” but to create meaningful opportunities for communication, interaction, regulation, and connection in a way that feels safe, enjoyable, and supportive.
