Meet Tara

Tara Lewis, M.Cl.Sc., R.SLP, S-LP(C)
Owner and Speech-Language Pathologist

I'm Tara, a pediatric Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) with 7 years of experience. My mission is to unlock every child's potential to communicate, ensuring they have the confidence and skills to share their needs, wants, and ideas with the world around them.

Education and Experience:

I am registered with the Alberta College of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists (ACSLPA) and Speech-Language and Audiology Canada (SAC). I have a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Psychology from Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Ontario, and a Master of Clinical Science in Speech-Language Pathology from Western University in London, Ontario.

My professional journey began in the school board setting, initially with Renfrew Educational Services and subsequently with the Calgary Catholic School District Therapy Team. My role as a school based SLP involved collaborating with occupational therapists and physiotherapists to provide universal programming including whole class sessions and strategies for teachers and educational assistants. I also conducted comprehensive speech-language assessments and delivered targeted therapy to students from preschool to grade 6.

Beyond the structured environment of schools, I have also delved into the realm of private practice, providing personalized therapy for children and parent coaching in the comfort of their family homes. I also have experience working with a multidisciplinary team to support children and families who have FSCD contracts.

I have a special interest in autism, specifically around sensory processing and communication. The unforeseen circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic steered my path towards the Ontario Autism Program (OAP). I provided Hanen’s More Than Words programs via teletherapy to support parents of autistic children. This experience opened my eyes to the unique perspectives and needs of autistic children. To deepen my expertise in the area of autism, I completed specialized trainings including Hanen’s Talkability, the Inside Out Sensory Certificate for SLPs, and the Meaningful Speech and Gestalt Language Processing course.

Personal Life:

When I'm not working as a clinician, you can find me embracing the joys of motherhood to my son and three furry companions. Outside of work and family life, I enjoy outdoor adventures, whether it's hitting the slopes for a day of skiing, exploring scenic hiking trails, or simply walking my dogs at the off-leash park.

Get in Touch:

Thank you for taking the time to learn a little more about me and my journey.
